This is an archival-quality giclee print of Gengoro Kamakura Seizing Tasaburo Torinoumi (鎌倉の権五郎景政 鳥の海弥三郎保則) by Hokusai Katsushika (葛飾北斎), originally printed around the 1830s to the early 1840s.

This print features a scene from a battle in 1087, where Gongoro Kamakura at the age of 16 was shot in the right eye by Tasaburo Torinoumi. He then chased after him with the arrow still in his eye, taking the arrow out and shooting it back at Torinoumi, winning the battle. This is why Kamakura can be seen holding an arrow in his hand while grappling with Torinoumi.

Each piece is printed on demand. Various options of paper and sizes can be selected, but the standard option is printed using archival-quality inks on archival-quality Awagami Kozo Thick White Japanese paper (washi/和紙), in A4 size. With this print at this size, our top-of-the-line commercial inkjet printer prints at around 700 dpi, with A3+ being around 400 dpi and A2 being about 300 dpi.

The Awagami Bizan papers have deckled edges, so printing options are limited. Awagami Bizan Handmade Thick 300gsm washi is unavailable in A4. When selecting Aiban and Oban sizes, these papers are printed in those sizes but on A3+ (13" x 19") paper, so there will be large, white borders.

The colors have been modified to bring back some vibrancy, so these appear more like they did back when they were originally printed in the 1900s. Small amounts of editing may be done on these prints to remove damages that have appeared over the decades, but our goal is to share a broad range of prints true to how they looked when first printed.

No frame is included. The frames in the images are for illustrative purposes only. If you frame this print, please use a cover that protects against UV rays.
A sheet of archival tissue paper is placed on top of each print for protection. Please store your prints with these archival tissue papers in order to protect each print and increase longevity.
